Pikuniku Collectors Edition is a release of the absurd puzzle adventure Pikuniku, made by Sectordub, a tiny four-person studio, and published by Devolver Digital on January 24, 2019. Besides the game itself, the Collectors Edition includes the soundtrack by Calum Bowen and a digital comic by the artist Mushbuh.
A Cute Little Dystopia
The hero is Piku, a round red character on long legs. He wakes up in a cave, and at first the villagers take him for a terrifying beast. He has to earn their trust, for example by fixing a broken bridge. Meanwhile, the area is run by Mr. Sunshine, a pink fellow in a top hat. He hands out "free money" to everyone in exchange for junk, while his giant robots steal the harvest, cut down the forest, drain the lake and kidnap the locals. Piku joins the Resistance, and from there the game gradually reveals what Sunshine is really up to.
Kicking Your Way Through
Almost every problem is solved with your feet. Piku kicks and pushes objects onto buttons to open doors, hooks his lasso-like legs onto hooks and cable lines, curls up into a ball and rolls, and rides in mine carts and through pipes. You can chat with the villagers, and nearly every one of them has a strange request. Coins found in the levels buy hats and other items. The puzzles are not hard, since they were designed for both kids and adults, and the humor carries the whole game. The story takes about five hours to finish, and after the ending you can wander around the restored island.
Piku and Niku Together
There is also a separate local co-op mode for two: nine levels where the second player controls Niku, and together you have to reach the boat at the end of each level. A gamepad makes it more comfortable to play. On PC, the game asks for almost nothing; even old integrated graphics will do, and the install takes about 300 MB. You can download Pikuniku Collectors Edition for free on PC right here. In 2026, the developers announced a 3D sequel, Pikuniku 2.
