Looking for something that exercises your brain and delivers a spectacle for your eyes? You can download Besiege for free, and it's perfect for exactly that kind of downtime. It was made by the English studio Spiderling Studios, its first project, and it's all about medieval battles fought with huge mechanical machines. Your job is to build a contraption that can handle a specific task, such as wiping out a battalion of knights or smashing a castle's walls. You can and should let your imagination run, but not too wild, or you'll end up with something completely useless. That's why creativity here is closely tied to physics. There are tons of parts for your machines, so you won't stop at ordinary catapults.
Besiege features:
- You have to account for weight, size, how parts are attached, protection and much more so that your war machine is fit for battle instead of collapsing too early.
- There are lots of blocks, and they're so varied that you can build anything from a sort of medieval tank to a helicopter. It's not just about hurling rocks, either; you can even douse your enemy in fire.
- The campaign is made up of crystal-clear yet engaging missions like destroy the windmill, the fortress or the enemy regiment...
- When everything goes up in the air it looks gorgeous, especially in slow motion, which you can switch on any time.
- There's a fun sandbox mode that will blow you away, both literally and figuratively, the latter thanks to the sheer joy of what it lets you do.
