Somerville was announced as an adventure game developed and published by Jumpship. The idea is to tell the story of humanity's life in the aftermath of a global catastrophe.
It's an adventure game, and even though the release was only set for 2022, plenty of players were already eagerly waiting for it. The project was actually supposed to launch back in 2019, but it ran into difficulties during development. In the trailer you can spot similarities between Somerville and Inside, the creators' previous work, but if you look more closely at the shifting camera angles, it's clear the game brings new and interesting elements to both its world and its gameplay.
You play as the main character, a man with a wife and a small child. The global catastrophe in question is an alien invasion, and it puts his family's lives in grave danger. Everyone knows Jumpship's work is always remarkably polished, with graphics and visuals that are a pleasure to look at, and Somerville is no exception. The developers haven't fallen short of their earlier games in either visual quality or storytelling. If anything, they've refined both in places and added fresh, interesting elements. All of this pulls you into a fantastic adventure where you live through the hero's story and feel every one of his emotions along the way.
