Two days before the famous E3 gaming expo kicked off, the biggest companies held their traditional press conferences. At one of them, Bethesda Softworks announced the sequel to The Evil Within, the horror shooter that earned high praise in 2014. The original follows police detective Sebastian Castellanos, who, along with his partners, investigated a strange mass murder at a psychiatric hospital and ended up in an alternate world full of bloodthirsty monsters, and therefore incredibly dangerous.
The 2017 sequel is worth your time because it promises to send players into a new alternate world, which, of course, is also full of monsters and all kinds of dangers. This time Sebastian Castellanos doesn't just have to solve a murder. He has to save his daughter Lily. She appears to him in all of his nightmares, and the detective must go through every circle of hell to reach his goal. Reportedly, the world Sebastian enters this time is born from Lily's imagination, and it even has a name: Union.
On the way to his goal, Sebastian will see more and more terrifying oddities, get ever more tangled in treacherous intrigues and live through one nightmare after another without pause. The creators have promised that every level of the game is unique. The difficulty will make you sweat: the town has plenty of spots with hidden supplies, yet ammo will still always be in short supply. But what did you expect? It's a horror game!
In terms of graphics and animation, The Evil Within 2 runs on the id Tech 5 engine and brings nice new effects that make the game world even more realistic, and therefore even scarier. The sequel is being developed by the same team, Tango Gameworks, led by Shinji Mikami. In case you didn't know, he's the creator of the landmark Resident Evil horror series.
The release is planned for mid-October of this year on Xbox One, PS4 and PC, and that's when you'll be able to download The Evil Within 2 for free. We can't wait!
