First-person horror keeps getting better and offers far more room for adventure than you might expect, and once you play for yourself, you feel the difference right away. Today you can download the Amnesia duology for free, an adventure that laid the groundwork for how the genre evolved. The thing is, this game cemented a format in which the hero can only explore carefully and hide when danger appears. So when you run into an enemy, you have to act fast, or your adventure ends on the spot.
The first part introduces you to a mysterious mansion that has become a real trap for the hero. He wakes up in total darkness with nothing but a single letter and no memory at all. What he does know is that if he explores the mansion carefully, he will shed light on the events of the past and understand what happened to him. That will not be easy, though, because he is terrified of the dark and starts to lose his mind if he stays in it too long. On top of that, the mansion is roamed by monsters that are anything but happy he is there. Try to unravel every mystery, collect all the diary pages and figure out what really happened to him.
The second part tells an unusual story, this time set in a real slaughterhouse. The hero explores a meat and sausage plant covered from end to end in the guts and remains of animals. As before, he is afraid of the dark, and now he also cannot stand places full of blood and entrails. Do not forget that you will have to hide, look for new ways out and try to survive, because this time you are up against a mysterious and very evil figure.
Both parts give you a close look at the modern horror trends that have become the benchmark for every game that followed. Help the hero recover his memory, survive a dangerous environment and keep his sanity in the dark. His fate depends entirely on your actions, so do not leave him in the darkness, and remember that the world is far more dangerous than it seems at first glance. Good luck!
